McKee Hall
McKee Hall was originally built as a dormitory with a dining hall and kitchen. Renovated in 1938, the building was named in honor of William Parker McKee who served as Dean of Shimer College from 1897 to 1930, following the retirement of Francis Wood Shimer.
Today, McKee Hall has been historically preserved and thoughtfully transformed into 17 modern apartments: studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. These apartments retain their original character with restored windows, hardwood flooring, and hallways, while offering updated features for contemporary living.
The former dining hall now serves as a spacious resident community area, and the original kitchen has been converted into apartments with private entrances. The limestone inscription of “William Parker McKee Hall” has been fully restored, maintaining the building’s historic charm while providing modern comfort.
McKee Hall is connected to Hostetter Hall through an annex, which has also been redeveloped into apartments with unique floor plans and individual entrances.
