Rebuild Illinois
Construction related to the Rebuild Illinois initiative is reaching its final stages at the campus, having officially commenced on August 21, 2023. The scope of work encompasses various improvements, including general renovations to the Sawyer House, replacement of the parking lot and sidewalks, masonry repairs to the main entrance gate, and abatement along with roof replacement for Hathaway Hall.
GROWTH stood out among 11 recipients statewide, securing funding through the competitive Regional Economic Development (RIRED) component of the grant. Following a public bidding process held in May 2023, wherein interested parties were invited to submit proposals meeting specific criteria outlined by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) within Rebuild IL grant parameters, GROWTH successfully finalized contracts with Galena Repair & Maintenance and IITI subsequent to receiving approval from the aforementioned department in late July.
Upon completion in April 2024, the Sawyer House will initially serve as a construction office for Growth General Contracting, LLC. It will formally open as a Resource Center in 2025, once major construction is nearing completion, offering housing and business resources, along with a co-working space. The campus will see improvements such as a new parking lot, relocated handicap accessible ramp, and upgraded sidewalks for enhanced accessibility. Hathaway Hall will be stabilized for future redevelopment.
